So at long last, I have a new theme for mjrportfolio.com, my online portfolio and digital playground. The design is simple, and at the moment sort of bland, but I am adding onto it everyday to try and spice it up with some color. But the true genius behind this new theme is not the graphics, but the code that I have been developing for it for the past 4 months. There are no more bugs (that I know of)! But best of all, I have hooked up the site with a modx content management system, which means no more notepad.
I knew that I needed a new theme if I ever wanted to move forward in a professional sense in the web design world. Who could ever take me seriously if my own portfolio site was ridden with bugs and glitches? Not even mentioning the non-existing security factor, or the massive width of the template and size of the ugly generic font. Although this theme itself is far from perfect, but on the programming side it is much more solid, and the design itself is an improvement. But I used my time wisely, and worked out the theme in such a way that it makes it incredibly easy for me to build onto it as time goes on and I get sick of its look.
You may notice that I have only carried over some of the features from my old site onto this one. Well this is because I looked at the content of my old site, and decided that it might be best to just go for a fresh start. So I trashed multiple posts and keep the select few that I liked. The biggest downfall of this new theme though is that I have rushed its release in order for college's I have applied for to see. This means that my portfolio page is not yet complete. I am hoping to have a vibrant, colorful, yet simple portfolio page design that differs slightly from the rest of the site in terms of its main content (the header, navigation, and footer will be the same).
With all this being said, I am excited to finally release this new theme, and I hope that anybody reading this likes the changes. From here on mjrportfolio.com will be moving in a positive direction, not quite a blog, not quite a portfolio, but a sort of mixture of the two within all the experiments of my web design curiosity. Make sure to check back often for updates, and follow me on twitter for a live feed of updates from me as they happen. Cheers, and be sure to drop me a message on my shiny new contact form.
Up next on this website, comment forms, a redesigned portfolio page, and god knows what else!
